Choose the area before the hotel
Where you stay can change the trip more than the hotel brand. Start with the activities that matter most, then choose an area that reduces daily transportation.
Best areas by traveller type
Downtown
Best all-purpose base for first visits, business travel, shopping, major venues and transit. Expect higher room and parking costs.
Coal Harbour
Best for harbour views, Canada Place, cruise convenience and Stanley Park access. Usually a premium location.
West End
Best for Stanley Park, English Bay and a more residential feel while remaining walkable to downtown.
Yaletown
Best for restaurants, False Creek and event access. Canada Line makes YVR connections straightforward.
Richmond / YVR area
Useful for early flights, airport-focused overnight stays or Richmond dining. It is not the same experience as staying in Vancouver.
Outside downtown
Can save money, but compare transit frequency, parking and the cost of repeatedly travelling back to central attractions.
Before booking
Check the final price including taxes, parking and resort/destination-style fees where applicable. Confirm cancellation terms, bed configuration, accessibility and whether breakfast is actually included. During cruise season and major events, central inventory can tighten quickly.
Do you need hotel transportation?
A downtown hotel beside transit may eliminate the need for a vehicle on most days. Airport arrivals with several cases, group travel or formal events can be different. Compare the whole trip rather than automatically adding a rental car.
